Congratulations to Shelley & Mark – Wedding of the Year Finalists!

Hurray! I’m pleased to announce that one of my wedding couples has won the first round of the Wedding of the Year competition being run by Your Bristol & Somerset Wedding magazine. Shelley & Mark who were married at Halswell House in March will now go through to the final and be in with a chance of winning an overnight stay at a luxury Somerset hotel. Well done guys! You can check out what they have to say about their winning day on page 38 of the magazine which has just gone on sale. My favourite quote (of course!) is where they were asked whether any of their suppliers were particularly helpful and they said “We both really enjoyed working with Caroline, our photographer, as she put us at ease and gave us a set of photographs that we both treasure”.

Somerset Wedding Photography – Claire & Mike at Glencot House

Friday’s wedding was quite a nerve wracking one for me as I photographed the wedding of Claire and Mike, and Mike has been up until fairly recently a photographer himself with a studio in Cheddar. No pressure then! In fact the day was quite a relaxed and informal affair with the ceremony in the Mayor’s Parlour at Wells Town Hall, followed by a reception at nearby Glencot House.

Claire didn’t want any of the preparations covered so I started my day outside Wells Town Hall awaiting the arrival of the bride and groom and their three children in their vintage Bentley. They were soon joined by their friends and family who had come to celebrate their day with them and the service was able to commence. Claire was escorted into the room by daughter Frankie, whilst sons Dom and Seb had the important job of ring bearers!

After the ceremony the couple were showered with confetti outside and then everyone made their way over to Glencot House for drinks and dinner. Claire and Mike had arranged for a magician to entertain the children during the meal and they certainly seemed impressed with his tricks. Especially when he made a kiwi fruit appear in Frankie’s hand, from which he then went on to retrieve a £20 note from inside!

Once dinner was over I took Claire and Mike off around the grounds to get some portraits of the two of them to remember their special day, and then the couple shared a first dance outside amongst their friends.

Somerset Wedding Photography – Nneka & Tom at Yarlington House

On Saturday I photographed the very colourful wedding of Nneka & Tom. Starting in the morning with Nneka at The Grange, Oborne, I photographed her final make-up preparations before she got into her fabulous bead-covered dress with the help of her six bridesmaids. Then I headed over to the church in North Cadbury to meet up with groom Tom, and to photograph the arrival of the guests. And with 300 guests they just kept on arriving! It was quite fortunate that Nneka arrived at church half an hour later than scheduled as many guests were still arriving minutes before!

After a lovely service, including some readings by the couple’s friends everyone poured outside into the sunshine to congratulate the newlyweds and shower them with confetti. Next it was time to make our way the short distance to Yarlington House where the reception and rest of the day was to be hosted. Yarlington House is a lovely private residence that hosts a small number of weddings each year, and has the honour of being a place where Napoleon once stayed.

As soon as we arrived I stole Nneka and Tom away to get some romantic couples portraits of the two of them around the grounds of the house, whilst, their guests got to enjoy themselves on the lawn with canapes and drinks. Soon enough it was time for everyone to make their way into the marquee ready for the meal. The marquee was decorated beautifully with some amazing floral arrangements courtesy of the brilliant Sabine at Glily, also based in Yarlington.

Somerset Wedding Photography – Belinda & Ian at Maunsel House

Another Somerset wedding this Saturday at the lovely Maunsel House near North Petherton. Belinda and Ian had originally planned to be married in New Zealand, where Belinda is from, but in the end a change of plans meant a traditional English wedding for them! I have known Ian and his family since I was 7 as we grew up in the same village and went to the same primary school, so it was lovely to watch him marrying the girl of his dreams! And it was clear to see that these two were very much in love.

I started the day at Maunsel House and photographed Belinda getting dressed. She had the most beautiful lace covered dress and some gorgeous Christian Louboutin shoes which she was very excited to get into! Once she was dressed I made my way across to the estate’s tiny little church St. Michael’s which was just across the grounds. There I photographed the arrival of the guests and Ian who was in great spirits! After a lovely service everyone made their way outside to congratulate the newlyweds and shower them with confetti. Then it was back to the main house for the drinks reception and time for some romantic portraits of Belinda & Ian.

During the reception and receiving line Ian couldn’t stop proudly showing off his new wife – it was so sweet! I left everyone to enjoy their meal and rejoined them later to cover the speeches and later the first dance.

Somerset Wedding Photography – Rebecca & Kyle at Haselbury Mill

Back to local weddings for me now…in fact most of July’s weddings take place in Somerset! Saturday was the wedding of Rebecca & Kyle, whose pre-wedding portrait session I did last week (scroll down the the previous post to see pics!) at local venue, Haselbury Mill.

I started the day off with the guys at Haselbury Mill, where Kyle was getting ready with his best man (dad Dennis) and ushers. They were all in good spirits and only a little bit nervous! I soon had to leave them and head over to Rebecca’s parents house in Crewkerne where she was getting ready with her seven (yes, that’s seven!) bridesmaids. Rebecca was amazingly calm and when I arrived all the bridesmaids were already dressed with hair and make-up done – I do like organised girls!

Once Rebecca was in her dress I made my way to the church in Hinton St. George where the ceremony was due to take place. I love this church as it’s got such a perfect layout and a fantastic vicar, enabling me to get great pictures of the couple during this most important part of the day. The reception took place back at Haselbury Mill, where the guests mingled outside the great Tythe Barn whilst Rebecca, Kyle and myself snuck away for some romantic couples portraits around the wonderful grounds.
