What a perfect day Saturday was for an English country wedding! Gorgeous blue skies dotted with fluffy white clouds and lovely and warm – but not too hot or humid – spot on! I was so pleased for Lucy and George whose wedding I was photographing in Wiltshire. Like normal I started my coverage of the day with the bride’s preparations, meeting up with Lucy at her mum’s house near Shaftesbury. Lucy’s hair and make-up were done when I arrived and she even had her veil in already – an amazing cathedral length vintage lace number which really complemented her dress. Her bridesmaids and sisters helped her into the dress and shoes and she was ready for George!
Leaving Lucy to enjoy a calming glass of champagne, I made my way over to Kingston Deverill’s church to meet up with George and photograph the arrival of the guests. George remained amazingly calm despite the best efforts of his groomsmen who were trying to wind him up! Soon enough Lucy arrived and was walked down the aisle by close family friend Norm to be met by a smiling George. After a lovely ceremony with some readings by Lucy’s two sisters the couple were married and made their way outside into the sunshine.
Lucy and George were one happy couple – I don’t think I saw them stop smiling once all day long – and even when the bridal car due to take them to the reception venue wouldn’t start, they still weren’t fazed! Luckily some guests were on hand to chauffeur them to Rye Hill Barn where the drinks reception and wedding breakfast were taking place. This was a new venue for me and it was nice to try out a new location. Whilst the guests enjoyed drinks and canapes in the orchard Lucy, George and I went off to get some portraits of the two of them – they even let me steal them away to a nearby cornfield where I got some of my very favourite pictures (see below!).
The couple had decided to split their speeches, having some before the start of the wedding breakfast and some after. So first up was Norm and then Lucy, who did their speeches outside in the orchard before everyone made their way across to the barn for the meal. Then after everyone had eaten it was time for George and best man Ceri to have their turn!
