Niki & Joe’s Somerset Wedding at The Longhouse, Mill on the Brue

On Saturday it was time for some more Somerset wedding photography at Niki & Joe’s big day at The Longhouse, part of Mill on the Brue in Bruton. I met up with Niki and Joe at their B&B in nearby Shepton Montague where they were both getting ready, together with their bridesmaids and the best man, Joe’s brother Sam. Despite everyone getting ready together there was a very relaxed, laid-back feel to the preparations and it was lovely to see Niki and Joe helping each other get ready.

You might remember from when I blogged their pre-wedding portrait session that I mentioned how Niki had made most of the details of her wedding day herself – including her dress! And it was a really beautiful dress too…I was so impressed that she was able to make something like that herself. But she didn’t stop there – she’d also made all the bouquets and the buttonholes from flowers picked from their own garden, and also all the table place settings, table plan, etc from scratch! That’s dedication!

Once Niki was in her dress I made my way to Bruton. The Longhouse is somewhere I’ve not photographed at before and I always enjoy working at a new location so I got there a little bit earlier than normal so I could have a wander around and scope out some locations for the portrait session later on. The weather was no where near as lovely as it was last week, but I was hopeful that we’d get some dry patches – and I was proved right! The rain didn’t stop for Niki’s arrival, but she kept dry under some umbrellas and was quickly undercover. Joe was waiting nervously at the front of the ceremony room as the last of the guests arrived and took their seats, ready for Niki’s big entrance.

The ceremony was short but sweet, with two lovely and unusual reading from close friends of the couple. And then everyone headed outside whilst the room was prepared for the wedding breakfast. Fortunately the rain had pretty much stopped by now but everyone was able to stay beneath a canopy just in case! Taking advantage of the dry spell I whisked Niki & Joe away for some portraits around the gardens and the sun even came out for a short while!

Hi Caroline, we couldn’t resist logging on from the south of France to have a look – absolutely thrilled with the pics on here, you’ve captured some lovely scenes and it doesn’t look anywhere near as rainy as we thought on the day! So excited about seeing the rest.
