Well after a rather gloomy Easter weekend this weekend was absolutely glorious – especially on Saturday for Claire & Tom’s wedding in Devon. I headed down early to Ermington to meet up with Claire at her parent’s house where she was getting ready with her three bridesmaids. As I entered the room the first thing I saw was Claire’s wedding dress (which she had designed herself) hanging from one of the wooden ceiling beams. It was so beautiful – especially with the lace shrug – and I’m pretty sure that Claire couldn’t wait to put it on! Bridesmaids Molly, Violet and Georgina got ready first and wore brown dresses with co-ordinating gold sashes and cream furry capes.
Once Claire was in her dress I headed down to the village church to meet up with Tom and photograph the arrival of the guests. Claire is a teacher and a large number of her pupils had turned up to watch the ceremony – pretty much filling the church up! Tom’s best man and ushers did a fine job of greeting the guests and handing out orders of service and folded hanker-chiefs, whilst the guests lingered in the sunshine before heading inside to take their seats. The service was personalised with specially chosen hymns and an emotional reading by Tom’s sister Ellen.
Afterwards everyone made their way the short distance from Ermington to Kingston House where the wedding reception took place. With such gorgeous weather everyone was able to head straight outside into the courtyard garden at the back of the house, where their canapes and drinks were regularly topped up by the house’s staff! After a little while Claire, Tom and I headed off to explore the grounds so I could take some romantic portraits of the two them. I love to include elements in pictures that show the season the wedding is taking place in, so of course daffodils featured heavily in Claire & Tom’s portraits!
Once the formal photos where done it was time for Claire & Tom to return to their guests and spend some time mingling with everyone, and I was able to capture some lovely relaxed shots of everyone enjoying themselves.
