Charley & Fran’s Pre-Wedding Portrait Session

Yesterday I met up with Charley and Fran at Stourhead Gardens to do their pre-wedding portrait session. The weather wasn’t looking too great but we decided to chance it and we actually were pretty lucky as we only had one shower during the whole session!

This was the first time I’d met with Fran as he wasn’t able to come in with Charley when she was doing her photographer research so it was nice to get to know him as well as to see how the two of them were together. We had a really great time wandering around the gardens and made use of some of the flowers that were in bloom to add a bit of colour to their photographs.

I’m really pleased with the results – so hopefully they will be too!

Amanda & Chris’ Pre-Wedding Portrait Session

Recently I met up with Amanda and Chris, another of this year’s wedding couples, to do their pre-wedding portrait session at Stourhead Gardens. Conditions were perfect for photography, just slightly overcast, and the snowdrops were out in force at the beautiful National Trust gardens so it seemed a shame not to make use of them!

Amanda was quite nervous about having her photograph taken but she gamely let me shoot away and try out different settings and poses so she could give me feedback later on what she likes/doesn’t like. I was really pleased with them all – so hopefully she will be too!

Here are a few pictures from their portrait session:

Featured in Your Bristol & Somerset Wedding Magazine

I’ve finally managed to get my hands on a copy of the latest edition of Your Bristol & Somerset Wedding magazine, which features an article on pre-wedding portrait sessions that I was asked to contribute to. The article can be seen on page 79 of the magazine where they’ve included my advice about how useful a practice portrait session before your wedding day can be. And they’ve even featured one of my favourite pre-wedding portrait images from last year – of Sass & Dave kissing in front of some amazing purple flowers!

The current edition of the magazine is also running a feature on my wedding couple Catherine & Jake Lewis who were the winners of the December/January heat of their Wedding of the Year competition (page 37) as well as a two-page spread on all the finalists of the competition of which TWO of my couples are in (page 38-39)! Check it out now.

Jenny & Adam’s Pre-Wedding Portrait Session

Last week I met up with one of this summer’s wedding couples to do their pre-wedding portrait session. It was actually the first time we’d all met so it was nice to finally put some faces to names! Jenny & Adam had brought their daughter Lucie with them to take part in the session – and I think it’s fair to say that she ended up stealing the show!

The portrait session around Barrington Court was loads of fun and afterwards we rewarded ourselves with hot chocolates in the cafe. It was great to chat in person about Jenny & Adam’s wedding plans and to help put their minds at rest about photography on the day. I can’t wait to meet up with them again on the wedding day!

What’s in a name?

Unfortunately quite a lot at the moment if you are my friend and fellow photographer David Calvert.

David has just discovered this in light of the recent stories run in the daily papers suggesting that Jon Venables (who was convicted of murdering Jamie Bulger) was going by the name of David Calvert. Since then David’s photography site has had over 50,000 hits. Normally we’d be thrilled that his site is so popular, but at the moment he is obviously very concerned.

As his colleagues we are doing all we can to help David disassociate himself from this dreadful story. He is in no way  related to David Calvert of Fleetwood, who has also been highlighted in the press and is in no way connected to the tragic case of Jamie Bulger.

David, 46,  is a national award winning photographer and his business David Calvert Photography, based in Hertfordshire, specialises in family and child portraiture. David has our complete support in these difficult circumstances and we hope very much that they pass without impact to him, his own family or his business.
