Children of Somerset – The Book!

For those of you who may not be aware this year I decided to take on a special project to raise money for the fantastic children’s charity the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The project was to photograph as many children across Somerset as possible and then feature them in a book to be titled Children of Somerset. I decided to waive my normal location portrait session fee for all those who took part and instead asked for a donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In total we raised nearly £900! Well, I’m pleased to announce that the book is finally published and available to those who took part in the project (contact me for details on how to purchase). And I just wanted to say a big thank you to those families and children that took part in this inspirational project and enabled us to support such a worth cause.

Emma & Dan’s Wedding – Alexander House Hotel

Once again, apologies are due for the long time it has taken me to get Emma & Dan’s wedding blogged on here! Things have been crazy busy at the studio lately (I blame the run up to Christmas!) and last week I had the busy task of hosting Australian photographer David A Williams’s Almost Alone workshop at my studio. Things are finally getting back to normal and I’m able to catch up with some overdue tasks, such as blogging this wedding! Thank you to Emma & Dan who have been very patient!

Well, Emma & Dan’s wedding was a bit of a ‘destination’ wedding for me as it was the first time I’d been out of the South West region for a wedding all year! Their wonderful day took place at the Alexander House Hotel in West Sussex and although the day dawned overcast, drizzly and full of mist, things brightened up just in time for their ceremony – giving them a proper autumnal day!

With everything taking place at one location I was able to photograph both the girls and the guys getting ready and everyone was pretty chilled out – Emma’s dad even went for a manicure at the hotel’s spa in the morning! It was also lovely to catch up with past wedding couple Nikolina & Rob, whose wedding I photographed last October, as Rob was best man.

I knew the ceremony might be a touch emotional for Emma, as she had apparently bawled her eyes out at Nikolina & Rob’s service last year – and I wasn’t disappointed! Luckily Dan was on hand with plenty of tissues! With the weather staying dry and not too cold, everyone headed outside after the ceremony to enjoy drinks and canapes in the garden. After a while I stole Emma and Dan away to get some lovely couples portraits – making the most of the last of the autumn leaves and colour.

Then it was time for everyone to go back inside for the meal. With the wedding taking place on Halloween Emma had made an inspired use of pumpkins as the table centerpieces (see below) and they also featured as decorations in the ceremony room.

Emma & Dan’s full gallery will go online once they’ve been in to the studio to see their images for the first time. Meanwhile, here are some images from their day:
